How A Heat Pump Works
If you’re considering a heat pump for your home in southern Arizona, you might want to know how heat pumps work. The name is a bit misleading. Heat pumps don’t actually generate heat. They redistribute heat from one place to another, and by way of a reversing valve, can change the flow of refrigerant to provide either heating or cooling for the home. When air is passed over an evaporator coil, heat energy from the air is transferred to the refrigerant. The refrigerant is circulated to a condenser coil and there it is released.
Heat & Cool Your Home with a Heat Pump
In cooling mode, a heat pump functions identical to an air conditioner. It absorbs heat from the indoor air and sends it from the indoor fan coil to the outdoor compressor. In heating mode, the process is the same but in reverse. Even when outdoor temperatures are low, there is ambient heat available in the air. It is absorbed into the outdoor unit by cool liquid refrigerant. Once turned into cold gas, pressure is applied, turning it into hot gas. Once reaching the indoor unit, passing air cools the hot gas, heating the air.
Heat Pumps From Green Valley Cooling & Heating
Heat energy naturally moves to areas with less pressure and lower temperature. Placing heat in contact with cooler, lower pressure environments, heat pumps take advantage of natural transfer. This type of system avoids concerns associated with the combustion process, such as carbon monoxide. The operation is especially safe, clean, quiet, energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
